An interesting blog by Oliver O'Brien of UCL here oobrien.com/2014/05/london-borough-websites-and-their-election-data/ where he rates the 32 London Borough councils' websites for their election results pages. I agree with most of this, although it is written from the point of view of extracting the election data and there are other usability considerations that should be taken into account. Lewisham is rightly given the wooden spoon for presenting their results as a PDF file containing (badly) scanned images of the declarations. Other councils that have done the same this year are Stroud and Hyndburn. PDF is generally a pretty evil format, and its use should be discouraged. The only other council I found that provided a usable CSV download of results was Brentwood who use the same software as Redbridge.

Cheltenham has since 1983 and Teekesbury 1973 (but one link is broken so you don't get the borough results, instead two lots of county results)

No, only around 30 councils ever put their election data out in this format. The reasons they didn't get very far are described here. However a few councils continue to publish in this format - I was able to extract the election results for Bristol, Derby and Great Yarmouth in a few seconds. Exeter, North Herts and Pendle took a bit more time as they had tagged the data incorrectly - Exeter had every ward tagged as Alphington. Tandridge also supply an XML version of this format.

Sunderland, Cannock Chase, Swindon and Castle Point should all get points for putting out useable info promptly after the declaration. Bristol were also quite good at that this year.

Swindon elections dept have a full list going back to '76 (per 76 very different boundaries), is available including a graphical timeline. I know, they 'outsourced' it to a local elections geek :-)

perhaps we should distinguish between councils that have a good and accessible archive of historical election data, an those who do a good job of showing the info for current elections - i.e. prompt publication of the sopn and prompt, accurate and full results after the count

Not sure what Southampton City Council's like for quick posting of results, or in what format, but my spreadsheet of past results is due to my usually being there :-)
Some Council websites are easy to navigate when you're looking for particular information, and some are absolutely horrendous.

St Albans is very good. Stevenage is a steaming pile of shit. The same applies to their council's websites

Bedford council is another waste of space. They haven't even released the nominations for the two Parliamentary seats they're responsible for

I came here expecting a debate over 1930s monetary policy...and I'm disappointed to say the least!

That is what I expected when I opened the thread. Either that or something about Rand Paul auditing the Fed.

Ugh - Herefordshire now has 53 single member wards each with individual PDFs.
I think I'll skip that one for now.

I can email you a 53-page single PDF with them all if you want.
