RE: the above ward. LDEM 523 50.9% +27.0% CON 280 27.2% -19.2% UKIP 162 15.8% +15.8% LAB 63 6.1% -23.6% That is an excellent result for the Lib Dems. Neither here nor there for UKIP and rubbish for us and labour.

I'd argue 16% is pretty rubbish for UKIP in the Fens too, but really with the Lib Dems doing so well there everybody else has to do badly. I suspect a local vote, for local people.

Also the local circumstances and collapse of the Tory party there makes this one where it seems everyone wanted to punish them ?

Lorna Dupre is well known locally, and was the only candidate living in Sutton. Party loyalties often aren't as important in the sticks as they are in towns and cities, where it's easier to get elected in a ward you don't live in. A vote for Lorna, rather than the Lib Dems here, I think. I think the UKIP vote was about right for this ward. We often take weekend breaks close to Sutton. A strange mix of country Tory and Cambridge liberal.

Getting fewer votes than nominations is always an achievement

That bit of East Cambridgeshire is quite popular with people priced out of Cambridge. ... who in turn price out the locals. We were staggered by the competition for our terraced house (note that - "terraced house") outside Norwich. No 13 has now become Leaf Cottage, while the next door terrace is now Brook Cottage. Down the road they built more "cottages" and called the road "Bluebell Way", having trashed the bluebells and woodland to build it. And, naturally, there's an incomer petition to prevent the building of social housing for locals who can't get on the housing ladder. Don't you just love the middle classes?
