Communities are the building blocks of local government electoral areas. Nothing amazingly earth shattering here... but some interesting ideas in Cardiff The split in Butetown and the creation of a Cardiff Bay community is a little strange though. Most are tidying up exercises - and some splits seem to be possibly looking at some new warding arrangements... www.cardiff.gov.uk/content.asp?nav=2867,3597,6739&parent_directory_id=2865 Any thoughts?

I spend a lot of time working in Cardiff Bay but I'm no expert- but I can't understand how the Bay and Butetown can be divided either, they seem far too intertwined.

My councillor friend in Cardiff is drawing up the Lib Dem submission to the current ward boundary review. He keeps moaning to me about the community boundaries in Cardiff not making any sense.

I think they make sense generally - though some could be split. Having got rid of the Gabalfa Finger they are fairly rational..
There used to be a Cardiff South Ward, which was very much present day Butetown plus the Marl area of Grangetown - which is part of the area that they would move into the new Cardiff bay community. I can see what the proposal is trying to do in that it encompass the new developments planned for the Roath dock area with that of the sports village linked with the old docks area south of James Street but its all a bit tenuous when the physical link is the bay bridge and the river taxi!
