So not really a three way split - rather similar to the last by-election result there except that Labour have managed to open up a lead over UKIP this time All of two votes - huge UKIP to Labour swing there UKIP will be reeling from that massive swing of one vote.

Looks like quite a good day for the Lib-Dems. Some good gains, but in line with the pattern for some time now - often doing well where they still have a presence, pretty horribly elsewhere.

One minor result from yesterday Appleton PC Cobbs ward ( Warrington UA ) Lib Dem hold LD 436 Lab 138 Con 87 LD vote share up 10.5% mostly from Conservatives .

Here is some background to the by-election in the Stockbridge ward of Knowsley Town Council in the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley (Merseyside).
Knowsley Town Council comprises 16 members elected from three wards – Knowsley Park North (4), Knowsley Park South (4) and Stockbridge (8).
Stockbridge town ward is combined with one polling district from the unparished area of Huyton to the south to form the Stockbridge borough ward.
The council strengths were:
Elections on 3 May 2007: Lab 9, Con 3, Independent 3, Taxpayers Revolution 1 Eight councilors were returned unopposed in Stockbridge ward (5 Lab, 1 Con and 2 Independent).

Woolston Parish Council comprises 12 members elected from two wards – East (6) and West (6).
The entire parish of Woolston is combined with the parish of Rixton-with-Glazebrook to form the Rixton and Woolston borough ward.
The council strengths were:
Elections on 3 May 2007: Lab 10, Vacant 2 (Each ward attracted only five candidates and the final two vacancies were filled by co-option)
