With regards to Denmark, think we can be quite sure that SF will not be returning any MEPs.

With regards to Denmark, think we can be quite sure that SF will not be returning any MEPs. I'm not able to find much other than SF having left the coalition over an energy deal- would you be able to give us a flavour of what's been going on with SF at all please?

After polling very strongly for a couple of years, they fumbled and stumbled before/during the 2011 campaign and leaked a lot of votes to the Red Green Alliance. And it's all been a bit of a panicked death spiral since then. Government membership - for the first time ever - resulted in further dramatic losses of support leftwards, and the party's factional difficulties* turned toxic. Its leader resigned, and a member of the left-wing heavily defeated a member of the social democratic wing. New leader turned out to be no good at regaining lost votes, and the factional difficulties got worse: most of the social democratic wing has now defected to the Social Democrats (including, recently, the defeated leadership candidate). The energy deal thing prompted another internal crisis, a withdrawal from government, and the resignation of its leader. SF's left-wing didn't put up a candidate, so now the environmentalists are in charge. SF is currently polling at between 4% and 2%: in 2011 it had polled 9%.
*SF had basically three factions: hard left, social democratic, and environmentalist.

I'd certainly doubted whether there could really be electoral space for both the Socialists and the Red-Greens in the long run.

This was taken by Demoskop 28 Jan -5 Feb 2014 www.demoskop.se/aktuellt/nyhet/valjarbarometern-februari/Social Democrats (S) 34.5% Moderate Party (M) 24.9% Green Party (MP) 9.6% Swedish Democrats (SD) 8.8% Left Party (V) 7.3% Liberal People's Party (FP) 5.0% Center Party (C) 4.3% Christian Democrats (KD) 4.0%
Sweden now has 20 seats, assuming this would carry over you'd get S 8 (+2), M 5 (+1), MP 2 (-), SD 2 (+2), V 1 (-), FP 1 (-2), C 1 (-), KD 0 (-1), PP 0 (-2) So the Pirates will be out of the Parliament.
