"He's Rouge Croix Pursuivant at the College of Arms"
Well, someone has to be, eh?

Does that make him the Red flag bearer then?

As a Member of the Royal Household and a former Bank of England official, the Rouge Croix Pursuivant of Arms in Ordinary is unlikely to be the Red Flag bearer in this poll!

I'd say the College of Arms trumps the Bar for establishment cred, by being (a) much more exclusive and (b) much older.

Possibly this is the first time that a Member of the Royal Household has stood for election to a local authority with two other Members of the Royal Household acting as his proposer and seconder? John Petrie's proposer is well known in the City: William Hunt (the Windsor Herald of Arms) was a popular Councilman for Castle Baynard Ward for many years prior to retiring last March. John Petrie's seconder is the York Herald of Arms.

We were told in the last Boundary Review process that Farringdon Without Ward must, by law, include both Barts Hospital and the Inner and Middle Temples. Not sure what law that may be!! Farringdon Without has twice the electorate of any other Ward in the City.
If you want a "wow" reaction have a look at Candlewick Ward's boundaries, then look at the scale of the map!

Accidentally, I walked in on this by election this evening as I work in the ward and was organising an audition for the theatre company I'm involved in at the Bridewell institute which is also in the ward. I turned up to find the institute was being used as the polling station, and both candidates were there. Two people voted. The candidates were eagerly awaiting the arrival of the bishop and the caretaker - neither turned up.

This was the first audition of four for "The Producers" by Mel brooks, which will be on in london and also at the Minack in Cornwall in August. big supporting cast required.....
