Results here: www.eleccionservel.cl/ELECCIONES2013/vistaPaisPresidenteBachelet to win after second ballot next month. It's amusing to have a candidate called Zipper ... shades of the late Tom Sharpe's Porterhoiuse BlueAnd the right wing candidate is winning Antarctica, by about 18 votes to 5 ...

Most of the minority candidates are also left leaning - a very clear message. Dr Bachelet will hopefully have a left wing parliamentary majority too

Success for the left in the parliamentary elections, too: The old Chamber of Deputies was 58-54 to the right coalition, with 3 Communists, 3 Regionalists and 2 Independents outside the coalitions The new chamber is 68-48 to the left, with 1 Centre/Liberal and 2 Independents outside the coalitions
The left already had half the 38 Senators, but MAS joined the coalition giving them 20, and they gained 1 in this election, so now 21 of 38.

AIUI, a 2/3 majority is needed to amend the system, so I don't think she'll be able to get enough support.

Not just won - an overwhelming win, 67% of the vote.
Must say she is highly impressive in all sorts of ways. She's a qualified medical doctor, has a masters degree in military strategy, she's been a tortured political prisoner who actually lived in East Germany for a while as they took her in following the torture, and has held a range of responsib;e international postings
Better than anyone we have to choose from in any party

Which is a rather impressive institution with participants from both military and government.

The links above and here www.eleccionservel.cl/ELECCIONES2013/vistaPaisSegundaVueltasay 62% .... Still very impressive, but I'd prefer the higher figure to be true because of my prediction on The Election Game!

It may well be 62% by now - particularly if Bachalet was strongest in the early-counting areas. Its certainly convincing.....
