Cllr Janet Holmes, the Mayoress of Wakefield, is to take over the mayoral duties of her husband, Cllr Brian Holmes, who died suddenly earlier this month.
Janet, a Labour councillor in the Horbury and South Ossett ward, will be formally sworn in as Mayor at the meeting of full Council on November 13.
