Group of thugs, almost as bad as UAF. Tommy's approach was idiotic in a number of ways.
Firstly, no group can survive with a structure of Zionist Jews in leadership positions and Neo-Nazis as a core membership (for obvious reasons). Secondly, whilst it might be correct to point out that other liberal pet hates (racism/homophobia/anti-Semitism) will only be exacerbated my a radicalised Muslim population, the kind of people who enjoy getting drunk, taking their top of and flying the St. George's cross defaced with their favourite football team's logo are much worse.
I hope this means the end of the EDL and the British Freedom Party (Liberty GB)...

"They were the wrong kind of racists! " No, they are, at once, too racist and not racist enough. They have a sycophantic irrational hatred of Islam but try to compensate it by teaming up with Sikhs, Hindus and Jews. "We're not racist... we just hate Islam!"

No doubt you'd prefer a 'sycophantic' (whatever that is supposed to mean in this context) irrational hatred of 'Zionists' compensated for by teaming up with Muslims ?

I'd prefer a rational suspicion of all alien forces and a love of your own people. That latter part, especially, very few people understand; they're all to wrapped up in their prejudices and hatreds that they lack any actual love or compassion for their nation. The average nationalist does not love his country; he loves a version of it that never really existed.

Channel 4 News @channel4news
Tommy Robinson on leaving EDL: "We need to work with Muslims to defeat Islamist ideology." #c4news
This is great if he had said radical Islam and did not have a history as he does. Many of his followers will be distraught at this as I know a couple who are EDL and they are total 100% racists who would do anything to get Muslims out of the country, they will not agree with this.
Now he may have had a total change of mind but if I said tomorrow I was joining UKIP or the Tories you would rightly said total BS and what is in it for you.

As long as you don't add him to the Coalition Group I will stay out of that!

Do you want me to add you to the Conservative group, Ian? nah, think I will pass on that ... got more exciting things to do, like picking the fluff from my toenails.

could get nasty, may never happen ... The thing is that I feel this is some kind of PR exercise to make him look more moderate when in fact he is not. This conversion does not fool me, people like him do not change their views and he has always encouraged the more extreme elements to his 'movement' and he was happy only a couple of weeks ago to get arrested for it. Such generosity of spirit! Are there not former far-righters who are now active in anti-fascism?

I think that the interesting point is the position of Quilliam on Islam. They clearly separate IslamISM from the Islamic religion. Quilliam's members are a mix of secular Muslims, and those who follow a reflective Sufi Islam - the sort dominant in Mali, where Islamists were entirely outside the religious traditions there and so were opposed by the local people. They view IslamISM as negatively as many on the far right, and argue that moderate and mainstream Muslims need to act to ensure their marginalisation. Hence Robinson talking about 'working with Muslims' against Islamism.

One of the main problems for some on the Left is the failure to recognise that Islamism is a political movement and reactionary in nature. There are those who fear that their Islamic beliefs are being hi-jacked and that Islam is entering a Dark Age as the Christian Religion did. Whenever I see a radical Cleric images of Pastor Jack Glass are invoked.

That's quite a good analogy. For those who don't remember just think of a less thoughtful version of Ian Paisley.

Alan Shearer's coming across a total idiot in that link. Bet he wouldn't say that to the Singapore born Terry Butcher.
