Since we were so rudely interrupted.
Looks like 9 contests during April:
1 on 11th April 3 on 12th April 4 on 19th April 1 on 26th April
5 of the by-elections are in District Council wards contested only last May, 3 are in London Boroughs last contested in 2010 and 1 in a County Council where the elections were in 2009.
Labour are defending 4 seats, with 2 resignations and 2 disqualifications where the former councillors were latterly sitting as Independents. The Conservatives are defending 3 seats, 2 arising from deaths and also a resignation, whilst the Lib Dems defend 2 seats, a resignation and disqualification for non-attendance.
Labour last had majorities of almost 20% over the Conservatives in 2 of the seats they are defending whilst the other 2 are likely to see the main contest between the BNP in Barking & Dagenham and an Independent in Tower Hamlets. The Conservatives last had majorities of 33% and 53% over the Lib Dems along with one seat that had been returned unopposed since at least the turn of the century, although it will be interesting to see whether there will be reaction to a 4th by-election in a little over 3 years in one of the seats. The Lib Dems are defending a seat in a "split" ward and another where the second winning Lib Dem was less than 4% ahead of the highest placed losing candidate, both with the Conservatives being the main opponent.
Predictions on this thread by 9.00 am on the day of the election.

Welcome to the new site! Hope you're doing well and recovering ok. Have still got to take it easy but am largely back to normal. Have been lurking but had really hoped Vote-2007 would have returned with all the historically data to build upon.

Welcome to the new site! Hope you're doing well and recovering ok. Have still got to take it easy but am largely back to normal. Have been lurking but had really hoped Vote-2007 would have returned with all the historically data to build upon. I think we all wanted that, ideally. Hopefully at least some of the stuff there can be retrieved over time.......

Welcome back, middleenglander, and thanks for taking this over again. There's a lot of work that goes into keeping this competition running every week and I think we all appreciate your contributions to running it on the old forum and here very much!

I thought this thread was to predict election results? I have a friend that put £20 on George Galloway to win, I think he got above 10 to 1 odds. It did seem to catch everyone else by surprise.
