Is Bracebridge the ward that saw an incredibly close 3-way finish in May's CC elections?

That was Hartsholme (UKIP 636 C 635 Lab 630 LD 83). Bracebridge was pretty close C/Lab though.

SCARBOROUGH Ramshill Labour gain (Hanna)Well, that's a surprise(/Hanna) I expected Con for both. BTW, do you know if the Independent candidate in Newby was a "member" of the Independent Group, or was an independent Independent. And which of the 10 "Independents" on the council is the "Independent (not a member of the Independent Group)" member?

Ramshill result appears to be Lab 190 UKIP 149 Con 122 Green 66 LD 57 According to Scarborough Council you've done the Greens out if a vote and promoted the LDs by one - they've got Greens 67 and LD 56.

Yes, very encouraging results for us. Even Doncaster was good in a way - winning margin almost unchanged on last year and actually a small Tory-Lab swing since then. Despite going down from 70 to 54 per cent

Overall, a good solid set of results for us, with another gain from the Tories in a marginal constituency. Clearly what is going on in the real world is very different from what is happening in Media Land and the Blogosphere at the moment. yep I made point elsewhere, whilst some politicos are obsessed over the failings of Ed (apparently) there is no sign in proper elections it has made any significant difference at all. The big difference is the UKIP vote eating away at the Tory vote.

According to Scarborough Council website Newby is: Conservative 380 UKIP 285 Labour 197 Independent 143 Green 76 These sorts of numbers look so weird to me - slogging your way through an election just to get 300-odd votes. I was got 4200+ votes the first time I was elected.

Scarborough isn't big enough as a town to get a district level authority to itself; it needs to add the near neighbouring town of Filey and the slightly further-away Whitby to come up to something like the right numbers. But the population density in the rural areas in between is very low and so the wards need to be relatively small populations in order to avoid them being unfeasibly large and impossible to represent effectively. This means the wards in the towns are quite small.
Even so there are some very large rural wards in what is mostly an urban district - Esk Valley, where there was a recent byelection, is a good example. Goes from the outskirts of Whitby right up into the moors, including the railway villages of Grosmont and Goathland (which you will have seen on TV many times playing many different places).

Even a larger Council like mine in Stoke never had four figure votes for a candidate prior to 2011 when the number of Wards was decreased creating larger ones with more voters in them.

It happens every now and then in Preston (Cadley 2006, almost every single councillor in the 2010 general election year, a handful in 2011....)
