There is one on Croxteth but it only deals with the post 2004 ward of that name en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croxteth_(ward)(for some reason the 2004 results are labelled as being those for Everton although they are the correct results for Croxteth)

There is a similar problem concerning the Newham ward(s) of Beckton and the Liverpool ward(s)of Croxteth, though there may be a small amount of overlap in the latter case there is none in the former. I don't know if the resepctive Wikipedia articles reflect this, or indeed if such articles exist There are two other London wards created in 2002 that share a name, but no territory, with a ward that was abolished in that year. Forest Hill is largely based on the former Horniman ward and contains no part of the former Forest Hill ward, now mostly in Perry Vale. The former Hounslow Heath ward was a real misnomer, containing parts of Cranford and Heston to the North and West of the Heath and no part of what remains of the Heath itself. The current Hounslow Heath ward does include the Heath along with parts of Hounslow to its East.

Oh yes the Hounslow Heath and Hounslow West wards virtually swapped around - caused me a lot of confusion at the time as I thought there had been a mistake on the map

The Victoria ward on Westminster City Council before 1959 contained very few voters in common with the Victoria ward after the boundary change.
Hyde Park ward has never contained any of Hyde Park. (It's named after the Hyde Park Estate)

I don't know if the resepctive Wikipedia articles reflect this, or indeed if such articles exist I am pretty certain that the old Croxteth (now West Derby ward) took territory from the old Gillmoss (now Croxteth ward) but not vice versa. If I am remembering my geography correctly there are no houses that were Croxteth that still are.

Thank you, andyajs, some people had apparently forgotten this thread is meant to be about interesting electoral facts.

There's no such thing as an uninteresting electoral fact IMO, although some are certainly more interesting than others.

The lowest finishing position from which any candidate kept their deposit in the 2010 GE was 6th place. This happened on four occasions (three in NI).
Antrim South (TUV) Londonderry East (Alliance) Antrim East (TUV) Rotherham (UKIP)
The highest fiishing position from which any candidate lost their deposit in the 2010 GE was 3rd place. This happened 5 times.
Cornwall North (UKIP) Eastbourne (Lab) Somerton & Frome (Lab) Newbury (Lab) Westmorland & Lonsdale (Lab) - just 2.25% in third place.

In the 21 elections in which I stood as a candidate, I got 15 votes three times. In my first 4 elections I got a number of votes ending in 5 every time.

In 1997 the Labour vote in Wales rose by just 20,272 votes from 865,663 to 885,935.

"A POLLING clerk has been jailed for her role in a fraud at local government elections in Derby last May. Nasreen Akhtar, who was a polling station clerk at the Madeley Centre Polling Station, in Arboretum Ward, helped her nieces, Tameena Ali and Samra Ali, to cast fraudulent votes by pretending to be someone else. Akhtar, 47, was yesterday jailed at Derby Crown Court for 14 months. Tameena Ali cast her vote for the Labour candidate Gulfraz Nawaz in the name of Noshiela Maqsood, who is no relation, whereas Samra Ali left before marking the ballot paper. Maqsood, 24, who lied to police saying she had personally voted, was also given an eight-month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months." www.rottencouncil.co.uk/jail-for-polling-clerk-for-role-in-derby-election-fraud

At one election I saw my vote being counted.... as in the vote I had cast by postal ballot. At the Fairfield ward by-election in 2005, I voted with a cross, a tick, a smiley face and a "yes" all in the same box. I noticed it during the count, and was slightly annoyed that it was only counted as one vote instead of four. Thus I only got 31 votes, compared with 34 for the People's Choice.

I didn't go to the count of the 2012 local elections here in Scotland last year, but if I had, I would have been able to identify my vote and my son's since we were the only 2 voters giving their first preference to the Lib Dems in that particular box.

In 1997 the Labour vote in Wales rose by just 20,272 votes from 865,663 to 885,935. Interesting because it suggests having a Welsh Labour leader in 1987 and 1992 hoovered up most of the potential Labour vote so that there wasn't much more to take in 1997. Maybe a similar sort of thing could happen re. Gordon Brown in Scotland in 2010 and the 2015 election.
