The UK has had an Elizabeth as head of state or PM continuously since 1952 There's a bit of inequality between the two Elizabeths, and I don't just mean in terms of length of service.

It's surprising how dominant Oxford has been, relative to Cambridge. You'd think the latter would've had a few more high-flighers over the past couple of decades. They haven't really shone bright since the 'Cambridge Mafia' days. Merton, Oxford doing well, first PM and topped the 2021 Norrington Table (ranks Oxford colleges by Finals results). The next PM could end the Cambridge drought in No. 10 - Burnham, Kwarteng, or Streeting could all get the top job. And the head of state is a Cambridge man (Trinity College)

The SNP did better in 2019 than in 2015 in nine seats: Aberdeen South; Berwickshire, Roxburgh & Selkirk; East Renfrewshire, Edinburgh North & Leith; Edinburgh South West; Ochil & South Perthshire; Perth & North Perthshire; Ross, Skye & Lochaber; and Stirling. 4/9 were SNP gains. 4/9 are among the richest Scottish seats: Aberdeen S; East Renfrewshire; Edinburgh N&L; and Edinburgh SW.

On a tangential note, in Scotland in 2017, three next-door seats were won by <150 votes (under 25 votes in one; and under five votes in another): NE Fife: Perth & N Perthshire; Stirling. Stirling bordered the closest Scottish seats in '17 (Perth & North Perthshire) and '19 (East Dunbartonshire). Surely North East Fife was the closest in 2017?

Boris Johnson's Oxford college was founded in 1263. Liz Truss's Oxford college was founded in 1264. On that logic, it will be a while before the next Cambridge Prime Minister, who will be from Peterhouse (1284).

The number crunching about by-elections I've done for many years may not have much validity or interest though I'll try to always keep it going. Much like doing the admissions/inpatients job here when the phone doesn't ring for hours, and I can't exactly hope for a rush of patients to give me something to do, I'm not staring at the spreadsheet desperate for an MP to be jailed or fall ill. But when you've got numbers to crunch you want to crunch them eh

If 468 people voted differently, Kensington & Chelsea would have gone to NOC in May.
