This is just about the worse election leaflet I have ever seen. Delivered by UKIP to "support" their campaign in the Waltham Cross Division (Herts CC) by-election. www.electionleaflets.org/leaflets/7020/

The UKIP operation in Broxbourne is pretty half arsed - their Waltham Cross leaflet is clearly illegal as it lacks an imprint and has the look of being thrown together on a home PC by somebody not especially skilled in the use of MS Word............. That being said, UKIP may pick up enough "protest" votes to cause some serious damage to the Tory campaign in a fairly marginal division.

I've received some curious feedback from the Tory campaign in Waltham Cross.
It seems that there has been no evidence "on the ground" of the socialists having run a serious campaign, no leaflets, no canvassing, nothing.
If this is the case, I am amazed as this must be a "target" for the socialists given the relative strength of their performance in past County & Borough elections in the area.
I know that the Tory campaign has been very active (over 30 County Councillors have turned out from across Hertfordshire) with extensive canvassing, leafleting etc.
Given this, I feel increasingly confident of a Tory victory on Thursday - may be of use to the Prediction Competition entrants this week?

Also I hear "via the grapevine" that the UKIP candidate was advised that his last leaflet broke electoral law but wasn't told why.
It seems he doesn't understand the nature of his error & of course his opponents haven't helped out.
Oddly enough, no further sitings have been made of UKIP election material.

I am not surprised to hear there has been little or no "socialist" activity in Waltham Cross, Richard. But what about Labour??

I had still been minded to predict a narrow Labour gain in Waltham Cross - I shall see when I get round to doing my predictions which will hopefully be soon when I'm relieved of child minding duties.

According to the list above, there isn't any socialist candidate in this ward.

Had a chat with the WX socialist (sorry Labour) candidate tonight - he had no idea that UKIP had cocked up on their leaflet which may tend to support the view that their on the ground "intelligence" isn't all that good?

It's a lovely sunny morning in South East Herts & the weather should be good all day.
Wonder if this will help the turn out in the Waltham Cross by-election crawl over 25%?
