One thing to note is that this marks the end of the electoral juggernaut that was the Common Ground alliance between Plaid and the Greens and which was still in force in April’s Grangetown by-election (and appears to still be a grouping on the council). Lee Canning (Ref) and Sam Coates (Grn) both stood in Cardiff East at the General Election (this ward is in Cardiff South & Penarth), with Coates having stood in Gabalfa in 2022. Canning has previously stood for the Senedd for Abloish the Welsh Assembly and for Cardiff Council for the Tories.
