[Northumberland will implement electoral boundary changes in 2025 and l5 parishes have undergone changes to their electoral arrangements, in order to align parish wards with the new county electoral divisions – Alnwick, Amble, Ashington, Blyth, Choppington, Cramlington, East Bedlington, Hexham, Morpeth, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Ponteland, Prudhoe, Seaton Valley, West Bedlington and Widdrington Station and Stobswood. In each case the total parish council size remains unchanged].

After allowing for parish wards and individual parishes in grouped councils, there were 232 separate contests with 1,232 seats available, attracting 1,094 candidates.
The candidate breakdown was 91 Lab, 86 Con, 10 Lib Dem, 9 Green Party, 2 Reform UK, 12 Community Groups, 56 Independents, 11 Non-Political Descriptions and 817 No Description.
Of the 232 electoral contests, 48 were contested, 73 attracted an exact number of candidates, 97 ended up with a shortfall of candidates and 14 failed to attract any candidates at all.
In terms of the 1,232 seats, 172 (14.0%) were filled by contested elections, 815 (66.2%) were elected uncontested and 245 (19.9%) were not filled. Within the 172 contested seats, the degree of contestation was 94 (7.6%). [If 10 candidates are nominated for 8 seats, all 8 seats are filled by contested elections, but the degree of contestation is 2].
After allowing for 245 seats unfilled, the remaining 987 seats were filled as follows –
