In each case the total parish council size remains unchanged].

After allowing for parish wards, there were 219 separate contests with 1,234 seats available, attracting 1,217 candidates.
The candidate breakdown was 12 Lab, 124 Con, 66 Lib Dem, 20 Green Party, 6 Freedom Alliance, 18 Community Groups, 76 Independents, 29 Non-Political Descriptions and 866 No Description.
Of the 219 electoral contests, 63 were contested, 67 attracted an exact number of candidates, 85 ended up with a shortfall of candidates and 4 failed to attract any candidates at all.
In terms of the 1,234 seats, 291 (23.6%) were filled by contested elections, 754 (61.1%) were elected uncontested and 189 (15.3%) were not filled. Within the 291 contested seats, the degree of contestation was 141 (11.4%). [If 10 candidates are nominated for 8 seats, all 8 seats are filled by contested elections, but the degree of contestation is 2].
After allowing for 189 seats unfilled, the remaining 1,045 seats were filled as follows –
3 Lab, 88 Con, 35 Lib Dem, 10 Green Party, 2 Freedom Alliance, 6 Community Groups, 70 Independent, 26 Non-Political Descriptions and 805 No Description.
