Under the Northamptonshire (Structural Changes) Order 2020, s. 21, the term of office of parish councillors elected at the ordinary elections in 2021 was extended to 2025. Ordinary parish elections due to be held in 2023 were deferred to 2025.
[North Northamptonshire will implement electoral boundary changes in 2025 and 5 parishes have undergone changes to their electoral arrangements, in order to align parish wards with the new district wards – Barton Seagrave, Corby, Kettering, Rushden and Wellingborough. In each case the total parish council size remains unchanged].

After allowing for parish wards and individual parishes in grouped councils, there were 131 separate contests with 791 seats available, attracting 795 candidates.
The candidate breakdown was 80 Lab, 133 Con, 18 Lib Dem, 18 Green Party, 2 Community Groups, 41 Independents, 60 Non-Political Descriptions and 443 No Description.
Of the 131 electoral contests, 39 were contested, 18 attracted an exact number of candidates and 74 ended up with a shortfall of candidates.
In terms of the 791 seats, 172 (21.7%) were filled by contested elections, 507 (64.1%) were elected uncontested and 112 (14.2%) were not filled. Within the 172 contested seats, the degree of contestation was 91 (11.5%). [If 10 candidates are nominated for 8 seats, all 8 seats are filled by contested elections, but the degree of contestation is 2].
After allowing for 112 seats unfilled, the remaining 679 seats were filled as follows –
42 Lab, 96 Con, 3 Lib Dem, 10 Green Party, 37 Independent, 58 Non-Political Descriptions and 433 No Description.
Out of the 88 parish councils, 9 were political and 79 were non-political. All were quorate.
