After allowing for grouped parishes and parish wards, there were 55 separate contests with 304 seats available, attracting 290 candidates.
The candidate breakdown was 73 Lab, 5 Con, 13 Green Party, 2 Community Groups, 39 Independents, 11 Non-Political Descriptions and 147 No Description.
Of the 55 electoral contests, 14 were contested, 15 attracted an exact number of candidates, 22 ended up with a shortfall of candidates and 4 failed to attract any candidates at all.
In terms of the 304 seats, 71 (23.4%) were filled by contested elections, 185 (60.9%) were elected uncontested and 48 (15.8%) were not filled. Within the 71 contested seats, the degree of contestation was 33 (10.9%). After allowing for 48 seats unfilled, the remaining 256 seats were filled as follows –
