There are elections this year in 7 unitary counties (plus The Isles of Scilly), the 21 shire counties left in the two-tier system (there were 39 back in 1974), 1 metropolitan borough and 3 unitary authorities.
The shire districts run the elections for parishes in shire counties, so none of them fall due this year. The Isles of Scilly has 5 parishes, but no parish councils and Thurrock has no parishes.
So that leaves all-out parish elections in 10 councils - 7 unitary counties, 1 metropolitan borough (Doncaster) and 2 unitary authorities (North Northamptonshire and West Northamptonshire).
This does not sound very much, but in fact this is the second busiest year for parish elections in the four-yearly electoral cycle, after 2023/2027.

Thank you for this listener - fascinating information on each thread. I fear for whoever has to administer 258 parish elections in Wiltshire! I've added Fylde, where there are two new parishes. I had a slight feeling there was another new or off-cycle parish somewhere, but I may well be getting confused.
