I expect there will be a few newly elected MPs, even if a minority, who will hang on until 2026 if their seats are due up then.

Independent candidate Peter Allison has been disqualified from standing in next month’s Farnley & Wortley by-election.

Mr Allison, of Tong Road, Farnley, took to social media to confirm his disqualification, which is connected to his job as a youth worker with Leeds City Council.

He wrote on Facebook: “It is with regret that I have to inform you that I have been disqualified from the local elections on 10 October.

“I was always aware that I would have to resign from my role within Leeds City Council as a youth worker but I was unaware that my resignation plus notice period would have to have ended by the time I submitted my nomination papers.

“I imagine there will be some other happy candidates today, just unfortunately not myself.
Nonetheless, I will endeavour to do what I can to continue supporting our community and who knows what the future will hold.

“Thank you to everyone who showed their support since I announced my candidacy.”

The remaining candidates are:

David Blackburn – Green Party

As the starting point of the 6 month rule is this week, I thought it would be interesting to update this.

Of 142 seats identified (after corrections), that I'm aware of (updates welcome):
60 have already resigned
1 has indicated that they're not resigning
4 have indicated that they will stand down when seat is up in May
19 further seats are up in May and so there will now definitely not be a by-election
34 are for district seats in areas where there will be a county election in May, so by-elections could still happen or be timed to coincide with the May elections.
24 are in areas with no elections in May, so could still have by-elections or not at all.

Thanks, now updated. I'd noticed last week similarly that John Milne, LD, Horsham was also a county councillor, so needed to add that one to the list.
