OpinionPolls: Unsurprisingly the first results report the RM-guy, who came in for a colleague disqualified by the Supreme Court, to be clearly ahead (and they use FPTP).

The "colleague disqualified by the Supreme court" wasn't just any colleague, it was former president Ricardo Martinelli, a rich local businessman running on a "we need more control of our southern border!" platform who claimed his disqualification by courts was for political motives by his rivals. Sound familiar? The outgoing administration was deeply unpopular due to concerns about immigration, the economy, heavy handed handling of Covid (at its peak, the government restricted men to going out for 4 hours a week and women for 6) and the controversy over a mining contract last wet season. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_Panamanian_protestsThe incumbent would have lost easily, but was term limited and his vice president, Carrizo, had a dismal showing in the end. PS Not sure if a mod can merge the previous thread with this one? vote-2012.proboards.com/thread/12184/panamanian-election-2019
