2024-25 Local Government by-elections

Cumberland, Wetheral (2027). Geoff Mitchell (Conservative) has been removed from the list of councillors.

Hampshire, Bishops Waltham (2025). Rob Humby (Conservative) has ceased to be a councillor.

Highland, Fort William & Ardnamuchan (2027). Angus MacDonald (Liberal Democrat) has resigned. He is the new MP for Inverness, Skye and West Ross-shire.

South Ribble, Bamber Bridge West (2027). Paul Foster (Labour) has been removed from the list of councillors. He is the new MP for South Ribble.

Rob Humby is the former leader of Hants CC. He is apparently stepping down as a councillor because he has caring responsibilities for several elderly relatives and he can't juggle those, work and the council.

That's the official reason...

If that was the real reason he'd just have held on for another couple of months and hit the six month rule.

The truth is that he's overseen a disaster in the council's finances and destroyed relationships with the districts and boroughs in Hants. The new Tory leadership just wanted him gone (and even at the expense of an almost certain loss in a by-election).

I think he's the first one of the new Lib Dem intake to resign their council seat.

Highland, Inverness Central - Bet McAllister (Independent) was elected in 2022 as Lab. Does anyone know the story?

I suspect I may have made a mistake - I must have had some reason for thinking she was an Independent, but the article I linked in my original post doesn't actually say that. And an archived version of the council page from 24/6 indicates that she was still Labour. Apologies all.

Mearns will be interesting to watch. The Tories polled ahead in 2022. The result was: CON 31.8% SNP 29% IND 21% LD 6.5% OTH 11.8%

First test for next SCON leader. I would favour the Tories there. Aberdeenshire has been strong for them. Tories gained two seats in 2022.

They did win ( gain from the LDs) 1 in Argyll & Bute in July.

Dont think this has been reported on here yet so perhaps Council group lists not updated yet, but Cllr Peter Harman has sadly died.

He was on Kent County Council representing Swanscombe and Greenhithe & Dartford Council representing Greenhithe and Knockhall
