Normal service resumed in terms of the % size of the majority after a shaky couple of elections with Carmichael trousering over 55% of the vote.

Shetland has benefitted from oil as they have their own slush fund and the SIC trust provides an awful lot of facilities for small villages which the Engurlish wouldn't dream of (a swimming pool in Baltasound for example). Paradoxically Shetland is also home to some of the best wildlife photographers and cameramen (and it is men) in the UK who are drawn there by the sheer variety of plant and animal life which manages to survive amongst the sheep wrecked hills and the pil rich waters. There is an awful lot of cash to be made from nature tours, not as much as oil and it is seasonal but they're at least trying to diversify.

Big developments in onshore wind, with the related jobs and economy, too.
But yes, they did look Nordic-wards when North Sea fossil fuels were discovered, and understood that it wasn't a golden goose.
Fun bonus: all those main roads rebuilt/realigned using that money have an ideal maximum gradient for comfortable cycling, even with a full bikepacking setup. It's just the headwinds you need to plan for!
