I do remember that he was regarded as being very much on the left of the Labour Party when he was prominent in it in Edinburgh. Now he's in Alba which is indeed quite a progression.

Quite the impressive return to parliament for Douglas Alexander with almost half the vote and over 13,000 majority This obviously wasn’t so clear at that time he was selected for here but he could have afforded to return to his previous seat with how things turned out. This was always Labour’s best chance of a gain in Scotland even without a huge recovery elsewhere
