In terms of personalities at least, this year's election in Inverclyde will be identical in its main contenders to the previous two. Ronnie Cowan will defend a seat the SNP first won in 2015 from Labour's Martin McCluskey.
Cowan now has a 8,933 (19%) vote notional majority in the seat he has won for the previous three elections (albeit barely in 2017). McCluskey, who came 400 votes from election in 2017 must now surely fancy his chances here, given national trends. In the interim, he has been elected as a Councillor for Inverclyde West (Gourock) since 2022 and is currently completing a PhD at Edinburgh University.
