Chris Stephens, incumbent since 2015, defends a 5,533 (13%) vote notional majority for the SNP in a constituency that he held by just 60 votes in 2017. Stephens is on the economic left of the SNP and is currently the party's justice spokesperson at Westminster.
Labour, the only real challengers, have nominated Zubir Ahmed, a surgeon at the local hospital. Ahmed stood unsuccessfully against Humza Yousaf at the, largely coterminous, Glasgow Pollok constituency but will surely fare better this time. Ahmed has been a friend of Anas Sarwar since they attended school together, Sarwar has denied a selection sitch-up.

Chris Stephens is popular locally and seen as a good constituency MP. I know of several people he's specifically helped since he became MP. His team also keep in touch with people for years after to make sure their problems were sorted long term which I'd never known an MP to do here before.
He is also easily contactable about dangerous potholes near schools and getting the council to sort them out within the week when they've been denying the problem. And sends Christmas cards!
I'd rate him first out of the admittedly few MPs I've had to date.
He's also doomed. Glasgow has been living on the national swing for a decade. Stephens himself expected to lose his seat in 2017 but Labour didn't put as much effort into the seat and even then only lost by a whisker. But more pertinently the SNP are currently locally unpopular, thanks to council decisions and cuts. Issues with bin pickups (and the dreadful new skip system used in parts of the constituency) and education cuts are frequently cited. Also all the other reasons the SNP aren't currently polling amazing are relevant here too.
I'd like to see Chris Stephens hold on (not something I can say about many other SNP MPs) but I suspect he won't be the only competent likeable MP swept away in the tide caused by louder incompetent voices in their own party on election night!

Do you know enough about the Labour candidate to judge if they might also be a good MP or not?

‘I'd rate him first out of the admittedly few MPs I've had to date.” I did not know there was an obligation to date an Mp.

Do you know enough about the Labour candidate to judge if they might also be a good MP or not? Just the basics (old friend of Anas Sarwar), so far. ‘I'd rate him first out of the admittedly few MPs I've had to date.” I did not know there was an obligation to date an Mp. I walked into that one, very good.

No socialist standing here surprisingly.
Tommy Sheridan might even be a member of the SNP now - I know he was certainly behind the Yes campaign.

He joined Alba in about 2021, I think, shortly after Solidarity was wrapped up. Gallivanting about in a Scotland football strip and a kilt post-indy ref was the hint that his turn towards nationalism was going to be a sharp one (although he'd long supported independence, of course).

I bet he’ll get on well with Ash Regan!

Well Alba has always been a bizarre alliance of alleged sex pests and reactionary feminists...
