I can’t edit a poll so it would need to be removed and started again. Is there much evidence that Reform are in contention for a seat like this? Even in 2019 when Labour were damaged in Northern Brexit heartlands the Brexit Party only notionally got 10% here

Leave it as is I say.

Please use 'Have' and not 'Get' which is an ugly American misusage which actually hurts when I see or hear it. Many younger people are using it when ordering food or drinks. It has a grating effect on some of us who still value style and quality in our language. This is a general observation 'at large' and not personally directed to you, but I am astonished that an educator and 'Balliol Man' would use it! It shows how deeply the dumbing down of general style and linguistic literacy has advanced in Britain. My few remaining friends in Italy and France deploy far better grammar and syntax and a much superior style to most people under 45 that I have acquaintance with in Britain. We are ever descending into buzzwords, cliche and diminished vocabulary to make up for general deficiencies and a complete lack of interest in expressing oneself in good english.

"Of course you 'may' 'have' anything within our scope of offerings, and I shall 'get' them for you. We do stock Neck Oil, Sir, as it enjoys a popularity amongst the groundlings whilst that fad lasts. But if I may, please can I direct your attention to the quality end of the dispense, where we have Timothy Taylors, Barnsley, Farmers Blonde and a rather subtle New Zealand IPA. I feel sure that a gentleman of quality such as yourself, probably missed them when entering! What is your table number Sir? May I bring your a menu? Very nice to welcome you as a valued customer."

Please use 'Have' and not 'Get' ..,. I am astonished that an educator and 'Balliol Man' would use it! That is slander. I am a Trinity man - "the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans" to quote Lord Peter Wimsey. I prefer the usage 'a slander'. But slander is a much diminished and oft misunderstood legal term. Defamation and libel are the more common forms of attempted legal redress. Slander is much concerned with the intent of the issuer and overtly concerned with female chastity! My comment was not a slander because it was an honest mistake; because I offer an immediate unconditional apology when advised of the facts; because it would be difficult to construct an argument around the term 'Balliol Man' being in any way a slur on character or academic achievement. Your quote from a fictional person is unknown to me and I don't follow the purpose of it? You make no comment at all on the substantive issue of the misuse of 'Get'!

Tories had a good result at a local byelection in Axholme recently, which - all due caveats as ever - may at least indicate their vote isn't in total collapse here.

Leave it as is I say. Actually the Ipsos MRP has Reform one point ahead of the Tories, and only five behind Labour. I’m not sure how seriously to take that, but the boundary changes which turned Don Valley into this really don’t help Labour: “Doncaster East” is fairly typical of the old seat but the Isle of Axholme does not strike me as very promising for Labour and might be for Reform.
