This has to be one of the most idiotic creations of all time. And we will probably still end up with Gavin Williamson as MP. . Even some local tories can't work out why he got a knighthood after being sacked from just about every political job he has ever had.

Unfortunately there were few remotely plausible alternatives especially with the 5% maximum deviance rule and the knock on effects of having to breach county boundaries to accommodate it.

This has to be one of the most idiotic creations of all time. It is awful but it allowed the rest of Staffordshire to de drawn reasonably well. A slightly better seat here, and there was no really good option, would have caused worse seats elsewhere.

The Boundary Commission seems to have "form" in creating dubious seats in this geographic area. The 1983-1997 Mid Staffordshire, stretching from Barlaston, on the fringes of Stoke, to Lichfield was just moderately less terrible.

And why was the perfectly reasonable name Mid Staffordshire not suggested or chosen? Instead we end up with three Little Dribbling names, which are borderline fictional sounding, perhaps appropriate for the almost ‘fictional villain’ candidate they are most likely to elect…

And why was the perfectly reasonable name Mid Staffordshire not suggested or chosen? Well, it isn't in the middle of the county however defined. But it could easily have been West Staffs.

Mid Staffordshire immediately reminds me of the scandal-ridden NHS trust of the same name (and for what it's worth none of the affected major hospitals would be in this constituency). But I agree that most of the constituencies with Mid in the name do basically give off 'the leftovers' of their respective counties.

Odd. Under present circumstances they would have polled rather well here.

Odd. Under present circumstances they would have polled rather well here. Suspicious that it has happened in one of the few seats where UKIP are standing.

Yes, I believe he would have done quite well there. A boost for 'Gav' A bit odd that although UKIP have a presence in the area, Parish Councillors etc they bring in a candidate from the Clyde area.

Odd. Under present circumstances they would have polled rather well here. There are allegations of dirty tricks by Williamson and co. Reform says another one of their candidates was offered a safe council seat and two jobs to pull out, then they said the Reform guy here withdrew in the last hour and did not to tell Reform UK itself until after the deadline.

And the Tories wonder why people would prefer to eat dirt than vote for them.

Seems a bit pointless when there's a UKIP and SDP candidate anyway, so those voters still have plenty of places to go.
