Of the two independents, Jay Anandou is a former Conservative councillor in Old Warley ward, and Christopher Graham has no web presence whatsoever that I can find.
This was the constituency I lived in for three years when I lived down south (Abbey ward specifically). My former housemate moans about Keir Starmer on the regular, but is still planning to vote Labour afaik.

I’ve just noticed that Somerset Councillor Oliver Patrick was the LD candidate here. He was at the count for the Yeovil constituency on election night.

In the end, the Lib Dems are just as keen as Labour & the Tories to field a full slate of candidates in a general election, and inevitably there will be many who have no connection with the area they're standing in. Some of them will get elected sometimes.

Absolutely, and he is very able so this may have been a practice run for a better seat next time for him, although a) I wonder how much useful experience being a paper candidate in that sort of seat is and b) I don’t expect there are going to be many vacancies in winnable seats for the LDs next time. It was more that it challenged my assumption that most ( I thought maybe all except those who’ve taken the huff) candidates are there for their own declaration, and I was wondering whether he did actually disappear and drive from the Yeovil count to the Black Country that night.

Spellar has long been known in Labour circles for his absolute hatred of the Liberal Democrats & quite often has given talks about their dodgy barcharts and other practices. He felt that the Liberal Alliance campaign in the Birmingham Northfield by-election of 1982, which he narrowly won, was not a clean one and he must have had a very cool relationship with those of his former union colleagues who joined the SDP, particularly John Grant the former Islington Central MP.

There was an alleged canvassing of him by Sarah Teather during Bromley by-election. He lived in Bromley. Allegedly, she knocked on his door and asked him who he would vote for. He told her "can't you guess?". And she couldn't because she didn't recognize him.

Indeed he was the Labour candidate for Bromley in the 1970 general election, when he was in his early 20s. This canvassing if it took place would have been a long while after his antipathy to the Lib Dems or before that the Liberals had been established in his mind. I presume that he still lives there
