They really have to do something about people who espouse antisemitic conspiracy theories. Over to you cousin Zack.

I was about to make a post saying that, with the new constituency names in operation, this seat is no longer the only one to contain a hyphen (the new ones being Inverness, Skye & West Ross-shire and Perth and Kinross-shire). But then I realised I forgotten Na h-Eilianan an Iar, so this post became less interesting. Still, a doubling in the number of hyphens at this election is pretty cool regardless.

Why is this constituency Aldridge-Brownhills rather than following the normal British naming convention of Aldridge & Brownhills?

Why is this constituency Aldridge-Brownhills rather than following the normal British naming convention of Aldridge & Brownhills? Because it is named after the short-lived Aldridge-Brownhills Urban District

Because it is named after the short-lived Aldridge-Brownhills Urban District And not the late Sir Pelham Aldridge-Brownhills, Undersecretary of State at the Colonial Office 1952-3, as I had previously thought?

Why is this constituency Aldridge-Brownhills rather than following the normal British naming convention of Aldridge & Brownhills? Trying to make any sense of the constituency naming rules is doomed to failure I feel. It is completely random, I’m afraid. I stopped trying to make any sense of constituency naming rules some time ago. We have a Hazel Grove constituency despite a fair chunk of Hazel Grove being in Cheadle constituency. Why not Marple or Bredbury & Romiley or even Stockport East?

Just back from a very civilised hustings which featured everyone except the Green, held at All Saints parish church in Streetly. Questions on poverty, fuel poverty, overseas aid, asylum seekers, the environment/ climate, and then three minutes each to do a closing address
