Sunak started his Cornwall tour here today. Trains being not his natural habitat, he was given a trip around Long Rock but not wearing the obligatory high viz. Tut tut.

It’s interesting he is in the South West today and it will be interesting to see where he goes. The South West was a stronghold, but not sure there are many safe seats left. Their best hope is local confusion about who best to vote for to unseat them. I can see few seats where they may hang on because the opposition vote is split.

This will probably be the last to declare, no? Don't the boxes from Scilly not arrive until the next day?

I've got a list provided by AP News which suggests that the last four to declare will be Argyll & Bute which is understandable and less obviously Farnham & Borden and the two Ilford seats. Of course that doesn't allow for recounts and delays in other seats. If I were forced to have a bet I guess Argyll & Bute would be the safest choice.

They always used to wait until Friday.

Marvellous result for Andrew George to go back to Parliament after nine years.
I was in the crowd outside St John's Hall in Penzance on the morning of Friday May 2nd 1997 when Andrew won the seat the first time by 7,170.
He held the seat until 2015 though 2010 was a very close call with a big swing to Derek Thomas, who was the Conservative candidate for the first time.
Thomas won in 2015 and by just 312 in 2017 but increased the majority to nearly 6,000 in 2019.
I know they counted overnight this time (which was disappointing) but Andrew got his highest ever share of the vote and biggest majority and I couldn't be happier for the man.
I hope the results presage a big comeback for the LDs in the Council next year - the Conservative majority is just three and with all the parliamentary seats lost it's going to be a tough fight to hold the council seats.
I could see the Conservatives collapsing to fourth behind the Independents, LDs and Labour.
