With the Liberal Democrats no longer in contention here and Labour having done relatively well in this constituency in 2019 despite all they had going against them, this could very well be a surprise first-time Labour gain this year. By comparison, when this seat was created for the 2010 general election, Labour only managed 7.2% of the vote.

As suspected this was a sleeper Labour gain though very much overshadowed by the seat to its east...
The fact that all six Cornwall seats were lost was not predicted but there appears to be no real surprises in the reasons for it and the relative margins.

Where do local experts expect that Labour would have polled best? St Austell itself & the china clay small towns & villages? Or did we do well in Newquay too?

The last time I was in St Austell was during a holiday in Newquay twenty odd years back. St Austell used to have Conference League speedway team based in a disused clay quarry near Par. Edinburgh speedway were visiting so we went along. It was weird rather like watching a a speedway match on the surface of the moon.
