The water situation in Brixham might make this contest more interesting than usual, particularly as the Brixham part of the seat has probably helped the Tories to hold on by their finger tips in the past.

I am reasonably familiar with Brixham, a popular retirement destination (I might be heading there in a few years) and I doubt it will affect it that much to be honest. If it was a fingertip election, it might be, but I don't think it will be.

Wonder if Wollaston regrets not seeking the Liberal nomination here now.

Wonder if Wollaston regrets not seeking the Liberal nomination here now. She had a job as a HA chair before resigning on the eve of the election. I imagine she probably would like to enjoy the world for a bit now. (That is the implication of her twatter feed).

Caroline Voaden said in her maiden speech that her father "came quite close to sitting on these benches" in 1983. Does anyone know which seat/party her father stood in in 1983?

Caroline Voaden said in her maiden speech that her father "came quite close to sitting on these benches" in 1983. Does anyone know which seat/party her father stood in in 1983? She was living in Scotland at the time (she was 15) so likely a seat up there somewhere.

Did a bit of digging and found her father's identity... plus a news story that's probably about him and which it would be a bit embarrassing for Voaden to be linked to. So I shall refrain from discussing further.

I believe her father is Keith Smith, who stood three times in Edinburgh Pentlands, 1983 and 1987 for the SDP, and 1992 for the Lib Dems.

They weren't very close to winning Pentlands in 1983

They weren't very close to winning Pentlands in 1983 In terms of percentage margin not exceptionally close, but I'm sure it would have been a winnable seat in the event of the SDP doing a bit better nationally.

The Keith Smith of the embarrassing story isn’t the Keith Smith who fought Edinburgh Pentlands.

The Keith Smith of the embarrassing story isn’t the Keith Smith who fought Edinburgh Pentlands. Yes, even allowing for 30 years passing, the South Devon Keith Smith doesn't look like the Edinburgh Keith Smith I remember.
