Simon Clark announces his retirement this morning. I believe the number of Conservative retirements has now surpassed that of 1997.

I can't find a breakdown of those who stood down in 1997, the total number was 117 (by comparison 149 stood down in 2010) 114 have announced their standing down so far of whom 77 were elected as Conservatives in 2019.

Note the Lords is still legislating - only just got on to the Third Reading of the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Bill.

Does anyone have the vote share for this seat based on May’s local election results?

It's worth following the LD candidate @threshedthought on Twitter for his Ukraine content as well

Iain Dale to stand for the Conservatives. Will he finally make it this time? Though it's a touch surprising as I thought he was no longer a Tory member.

Is this actually confirmed? I can only see reports that he is seeking selection, not that he has actually won it..

They would do well not to select Iain Dale given his past record.

Iain Dale to stand for the Conservatives. Will he finally make it this time? Though it's a touch surprising as I thought he was no longer a Tory member. So did I. He must have re-joined very recently because I was under the impression that he left the party back in 2010 or something like that. A long time ago certainly. I am also surprised he chose Tunbridge Wells as he is from the East Anglia area, he has a house there and has repeatedly talked on his show about his love for his home area. I would have thought he would stand a better chance in East Anglia as there must be some winnable seats there still going given we've still to select something like 150 of our candidates. On whether I would like him to be a candidate and, if he wins, an MP for us, I wouldn't mind. I don't share the hate for Iain Dale and I think having someone who has contacts with just about everyone in the upper echelons of politics would be valuable to the party and his prospective constituents. He also, through his show, has a keen idea of what the public think on issues, and I know that as I often listen to his now former show. The brawling with a protestor stuff doesn't concern me as most people find them really annoying and it's only the political bubble who seem to think there's something honourable about aggressive, threatening and/or disruptive protesting. What I find perplexing is why he resigned from his show now. He could have stayed until Friday and until he knew whether he's been selected. I hope that doesn't comeback to haunt him.
