That's possibly the most impressive Lib Dem result of the lot, as tactical voting sites were recommending Labour here - the local campaign must have been incredible to overcome that. I think our candidate had a lot to do with the result. Pretty formidable. I think she was one of five ex-soldiers - one is still a reservist - elected for the Lib Dems last night along with Richard Foord, Chris Coghlan, Mike Martin and Cameron Thomas. Mind you she's also had successful careers in other fields too.

Very impressive win here, the area has only voted for right leaning parties in the past. I heard that the Tory candidate here did way more than simply lean right, mind.

This was one of the big surprises that seems to have gone unnoticed given that there were so many this GE. A real sign, if there were any more needed, that this really was a punish and get rid of the Tories GE.

LD majority: 6.7% RFM vote: 10.6%
BUT I think a lot of the Labour vote will go to the Lib Dems next time to keep the Tories out.

Not much joy here for True & Fair Ltd. How will she try to ape Farage next?

I think what helped here, only in part, were the boundary changes. Epsom and Ewell is residents association, as is Ashtead. Nork and Tattenhams formerly in this seat was also Residents. Leatherhead in Mole Valley has voted Lib Dem recently and as such there is as such there is some local support there, which a campaign could be based off.

I hadn't particularly paid attention to the boundary changes here but for sure the exchange of the Banstead wards for the Leatherhead wards would have helped the Lib Dems, even if not enough to have been decisive. Conversely, the Banstead wards would have helped the Tories in Reigate, together with the loss of grotty Merstham - again probably not enough to have made the difference, but both seats would have been a lot closer on the old boundaries.

I wonder if Gina Miller regrets not joining the Lib Dems now?

However that would appeal to many and she could well be an MP today if she had. Still her little party will I'm sure disappear into the yonder soon.

One of the few policies I was aware that Gina Miller was supporting was a reduction in the length of school summer holidays - and instead have state-endorsed activities put on by volunteers for four weeks of the year.

I wonder if Gina Miller regrets not joining the Lib Dems now? This 100 times. I said the same about Change UK / The Independents in 2019. Of those, Heidi Allen could plausibly have won South Cambridgeshire as a Lib Dem.

Not quite the same as Heidi Allen wanted to get out of Parliament while Fina Miller wanted to get into Parliament.

Hurrah, National Service for children! That's a winner. The manifesto also calls for more money for alternative medicine, compulsory coding lessons from age 7 (easy to teach, no doubt), and the compulsory extra summer stuff you mention- or "Sensory Term" as she puts it. It also refers repeatedly to COMMON SENSE. A lot. Lib Dems dodged a bullet with this one.

Is this like the "compulsory volunteering" which the Tories proposed for those turning down National Service?
