I think plenty of local associations are just looking at the national situation and the absolute shambles of the national party and have basically given up on this election. Thus they are quite happy to pick the CCHQ favoured candidate knowing that they will lose anyway.

With the demographic changes that have been happening in this constituency's component parts especially Margate, it will be interesting to see how both Reform UK and the Greens do-it could be like the now abolished constituency of Leeds West psephologically. A Labour gain is likely but by no means certain-in seats like these a Reform UK surge could screw up Labour's chances just as much as the Conservatives'.

Comparing his result there to Reform's result here, Farage does seem to have really helped UKIP in South Thanet nine years ago.

Helen Harrison really has a shockingly bad record of losing previously safe seats by large margins. I wonder if that's it for her.
