Where will Grieve’s sizeable share of the vote go? He was probably one of the strongest independents in 2019. There will be some larger-than-average percentage increases for the other parties (or even a less than average Tory decline if some of it goes back to them, but surely unlikely given Grieve stood on an anti-Brexit ticket). Gauke also did rather well (even more surprisingly so given he was much lower profile than Grieve) but his constituency is split in half, whereas I understand Beaconsfield should be mostly intact.

His vote was more or less a de facto Lib Dem vote, with a small element of Labour tactical votes

yes a friend of mine who is normally Labour-inclined voted tactically for Grieve at the last election. She has now moved to Oxford.

This is actually quite irritating tbh. Posting the actual result without comment would be fine but just posting a link to the BBC results page, as if there is any person here who is not aware of the existence of that website, is pointless and in clogging up the recent threads is as bad as all the effective spam generated before the election by the 'Con hold, Lab gain' brigade.
