Sojan Joseph (Lab), who won the seat, is the first ever British MP from the Malayalee community - people from Kerala or of Keralite heritage who speak Malayalam, a Dravidian language related to Tamil. My wife is a Malayalee. I should think that he must be a Christian judging from his name. He has lived in Ashford for over 20 years & is a nurse. Given his name, and profession, definitely a Christian, and most likely Syro-Malabar Catholic. The first significant immigration was in the early 2000's. I guess a devout Catholic, along with quite a few others elected on July 4th. Yes - he is a Catholic. |
