I disagree with them.

I dislike the nature of this campaign and "vote for your local Consensus candidate" - stinks of the same intention to mislead as the Literal Democrats, and if we objected to that we should object to this. As it happens I know the Ransley family of old - I remember canvassing them in a county council election longer ago than I care to think- this guy was probably only a kid then.

One of the nicest Tories here, I expect him to wriggle out of the Labour tsunami.
Edit. Just seen boundarychanges unkind to Green and perhaps why he wanted the neighbouring seat of Weald of Kent. Tight but Con hold and one of the better value Conservative hold bets at over 2/1

Tight but Con hold and one of the better value Conservative hold bets at over 2/1 I expect him to hold on, but I know someone very well indeed who has met him & found him fairly dislikeable.

I do of course know Damian very well- less so in more recent years. Having had lunch with him several times, he was always agreable and quite funny about the stuffed shirts in his own parliamentary party. And of course he is now on the left of his party, on the basis that most who were further left have, well, left. I suspect he has changed quite a lot as a result of the things that have been happening in the last few years and the sex allegations, etc- somebody has been out to get him. He may survive next week but I would the likelihood is rather the other way.

When it was announced last year that he had failed to be selected in Weald of Kent and so had to accept his true successor seat in Ashford, I thought little of it at the time...

Sojan Joseph (Lab), who won the seat, is the first ever British MP from the Malayalee community - people from Kerala or of Keralite heritage who speak Malayalam, a Dravidian language related to Tamil. My wife is a Malayalee. I should think that he must be a Christian judging from his name. He has lived in Ashford for over 20 years & is a nurse.

Given his name, and profession, definitely a Christian, and most likely Syro-Malabar Catholic. The first significant immigration was in the early 2000's. I guess a devout Catholic, along with quite a few others elected on July 4th.

Didn’t notice that Damian Green lost his seat until now… My favourite result of the night. He always came across to me as one of the less objectionable Tory MPs, maybe even decent?

The poet Gerald Manley Hopkins was a priest there in the 1880s.
