Marie Rimmer has confirmed that she will be standing again, which is perhaps slightly surprising. She’s 77 and I make it will be the oldest Lab MP by almost 3 years.

Nothing to lose. Except her deposit, perhaps.

That reminds me of the time when I decided not to go to George Galloway’s meeting to launch the Respect campaign in Croydon North in 2012 because I had an important appointment to stay at home to find out who had been evicted from X Factor instead.

It wasn't George Galloway getting evicted was it?

It wasn't George Galloway getting evicted was it? On second thoughts, I think it was an episode of The X Factor rather than Big Brother

I see that the Independent candidate here got 11%, a strong result for a mostly white British seat. Anyone know what their campaign was about?

Very active local councillor in Rainhill, who picked up on several 'hot button' issues such as development on greenbelt (anti), better infrastructure, more spending on NHS, support for WASPI women. Right issues and a decent campaign gets you a decent vote but not usually enough to break through.
