Looking at other ballot papers, 5 is looking like 3 used to. Inflation is going down except with SOPNs apparently!

When was the last "normal" (ie not the Speaker or other special case) 3 candidate election in England at a GE? The last straight Tory/Labour fights were in 1979.

Certainly surprising that the Greens had no candidate in the latter.

Certainly surprising that the Greens had no candidate in the latter. Actually they did. The Liberal Democrats were the party missing a candidate there and then.

Ah of course, had actually forgotten they left a significant number of seats uncontested then. Something unlikely to be repeated for a while I suspect.

If I remember correctly a few in 2017 only had three candidates because of the totally unexpected nature of the election

I live in Kirkby Lonsdale which was removed from Farron's seat and placed in David Morris's seat. Not seen a single poster or stakeboard in town, nor have we received any had delivered leaflet from any party.

I'm surprised Labour haven't dropped a leaflet round since the seat looks quite promising for them.

I'd actually wondered whether this could be a medium term LD target - there's a chunk from South Lakeland, and the Lancaster part contains all the wards that have LD councillors. I suppose the sticking point would be Morecambe itself, though there were signs of LD activity there in 2021-23.
Haven't seen anything to suggest any campaigning here at all though.

Haven't seen anything to suggest any campaigning here at all though. Most of the electorate is in Morecambe, Heysham and Carnforth. Neither of these 3 towns have a significant LD vote, and I would say not. I think the new Keswick and Solway further up north would be a better stretch target for the LDs - Penrith and Keswick ought to be good LD territory, and the rest can be worked.

There was a period running up to the 2023 council elections when there was a string of LD town council (and district) wins in Morecambe which I thought might have indicated increased organisation there. But in the end they didn't really get anywhere in the main 2023 elections, and there hasn't been any opportunity to do anything since. I agree re: Penrith & Solway though.

I'm not sure some people could have even predicted the absolute evisceration the Tories got here in the North West. To win Morecambe and Lunesdale is one thing, but winning Fylde is another.

The Tories held Fylde (though only narrowly)
