Or completely unattractive.
Good Lord dok, you make it sound like it's on the dark side of the moon.
"This is a local seat for local people".
Some parts of Lancashire are like that. Very insular, difficult road and rail connections, tend to work close to family, can't always afford to move to Manchester at the best of times never mind these days. Just thinking of my office, the majority of us are Preston born, Preston educated, very few of us travel very often. That's common, very common. 'NORMAL FOR PRESTON'!

Why not? Local people know the local area and can be attractive to local voters. This is a very insular constituency, it's barely connected to Wigan let alone Greater Manchester more generally. Sometimes seats aren't suited to outsiders with parachute and influence. Or completely unattractive.

Dark side of Wigan. This isn't the nicest seat, but it's incredibly well-connected.

Actually I would think I would describe the component parts of this seat as very well connected, but not necessarily to each other most of all. There are quite a few seats like that.

It's a bit of a dustbin of places that are neither one thing nor the other. (You could make a similar case for Hazel Grove!)

This was Reform's 6th best constituency. Yes, and notably one of 2 (formerly) safe Labour seats which had been held by Labour in 2019 where they polled over 30% with a Conservative candidate standing; in both cases they came within 15% of Labour keeping both seats semi-marginal. Makerfield and its predecessors have been held by Labour since 1906 but if Reform UK continues on an upward trend this may not be the case for long (see also Hull East, held by Labour since 1935).
