It will likely not play well anywhere in Cheadle-this is almost entirely well-educated affluent suburbia similar to Twickenham. There's a heavy and concentrated (and educated) Muslim presence in part of the seat. There's also a heavy and concentrated Jewish presence. However, I can't see those Muslim voters being big Galloway fans. Is Mary Robinson still popular with the Irish community here?…

She was very popular with the Parkrun people, I know that.

There were some issues with the council about access to the local parks, which she intervened in. My wife said she often saw her volunteering at the runs as well. She may have run them herself, not sure.

Anyway, this seat is lost to the Conservative Party. There are worse people to be your MP than Mary Robinson, despite my past misgivings. She's not particularly disliked, and even political opponents acknowledge that she's active locally. But she has little real profile, and she will be swept away easily. It's winnable again, but that will require them to not try and go down the Reform tribute act route. That won't wash here. They need a perfect storm of a sensible front-bench, an unpopular Labour government and an unpopular Lib Dem council. And they will need to rebuild on the council to achieve that anyway. Gut feeling - A&SW won't vote Conservative for a generation, but Cheadle will be the first seat to return to the blue camp when they do recover. I wonder if this will be the case or will Stockport including Cheadle follow the more affluent parts of South Manchester and end up with a straight Lib-Dem v Labour fight? This is becoming the situation in local government and demographic change must have played some part in this.

There's an argument to be made that the Lib Dems voter base in Stockport is an anyone-but-Labour base. And Cheadle hasn't had the same changes as, say, the Heatons. This time out will be instructive. Their highest vote was 19 per cent in 2017. It will probably top that this time, but to what degree will be interesting.

There are two- Cheadle Hulme and Bramhall. Bramhall gets very busy. They are both quite interesting terrain: Cheadle Hulme is in the mud around Bruntwood Park with lots of terrain changes. Bramhall Park is indeed a big event and 4 decent climbs on the route, as well as passing a spot where Ed Davey carried out one of his campaign stunts. if that doesn't sell it, nothing will. Done Bramhall a few times and Cheadle Hulme once. On home turf here, literally.

The big problem is that a small group of attendees park very inconsiderately and make it hard for people to get through, including other runners.
