Looks like Stringer is standing again based on Labour’s candidate website and the MEN article on Greater Manchester candidates. He’s incredibly low-profile on social media so didn’t see any announcement of reselection or retirement. At 74 and in the likely event he is re-elected he must be in the top 10 oldest in the new parliament, other than Corbyn and Bottomley assuming they are elected?

It will almost certainly be in the bottom 10 for turnout percentage-Blackley & Broughton's turnout never exceeded 56% throughout that constituency's existence.

It must also be one of the most anonymous constituencies. Very few people will be able to point to where either Blackley or Middleton are on a map, and most won't know which city they are in.

Well it depends if you are in Blackley (Manchester) or Middleton (not in a city). I assume that Middleton includes the Langley estate. Most there would consider themselves Mancs.

Middleton does include Langley, but I believe it is in the Middleton West ward which will be part of Heywood and Middleton North and not here.

And he is certainly one of the most useless. The elusive Graham Stringer makes an appearance on twitter thanks to his friend Karney - only to now get a lot of mud thrown for his various odd views particularly his links to the climate-sceptic groups… x.com/jolyonmaugham/status/1796853803297219052?s=46&t=ChpsB0QIjJdidQnGdQbkoQI see the Greens have made some noise off the back of this and may attempt to capitalise on this but they will struggle to keep their deposit, this is certainly not fertile ground for them with very little gentrification apart from the aptly named Green Quarter, a pocket of modern ‘professional’ apartments just north of Victoria station though this may be in the Cheetham ward in which case it will be in Central (which along with Rusholme and Withington I’d imagine the Greens will comfortably hold their deposit and probably beat Reform). Alkrington is more ‘old money’ and will be a straight fight between Labour/Conservatives and a handful of Reform. One thing I can give GS credit for though is it could be worse in that they could have ended up with Karney as MP who comes across as rather arrogant and even more useless - only interested in the city centre while Harpurhey remains one of the most deprived areas - totally taken for granted and a bit of a rent-a-gob as it is - imagine if he had a national role. At least Stringer didn’t become a national figure and quietly gets on with the casework as I understand it.

Karney is a total arsehole, and seeing him and Jolyon Maugham mentioned together is even worse.
