I think they are aiming at Houghton and Sunderland South first, and it is so in the estimates - which if I'm not mistaken the sports centre where the count takes place is in. According to the estimates only Houghton and Blyth and Ashington are forecast to be pre midnight.

Wasn’t Blyth Valley aiming to be the first last time, only to be scuppered by the need for a recount (closely followed by Wansbeck which also needed one and was a close shave for Lavery!)

That's right - Blyth Valley was only a few minutes after Newcastle Central which was first up, so I suspect had there not been a recount it would've been first, yes.
