I assume the count here will be in the same hall as Corbyn’s - might it be a bit awkward for Thornberry to keep her distance from him! A bit of tension in the air? No hugs, misplaced high-fives or pictures together a la 2017…

Islington normally uses the Sobell Leisure Centre for its election counts (both constituencies); I assume it will do so again.
(Certain other inner London boroughs tend to prefer to hire outside venues, but are finding it difficult because most have existing bookings for summer evenings)

I found this (Conservative) on the pavement getting soggy after the rain. I was a bit reluctant to load it up to the election leaflets website without checking if I'm duplicating somebody else having already done it, but as the website doesn't have a way of checking then I thought I'll do it anyway. electionleaflets.org/leaflets/20363/

ET only lost 3% vote share, comparatively good. Greens up THIRTEEN %.
Dumped by Starmer, no job for her. A focus group on English patriotism must have been held by Labour and ppl with long memories might have done for her. Perhaps perceivedcloseness to you know who too.
Destined for backbenches forever methinks.

The Boundary Commission put the marginal De Beauvoir ward in Hackney into this seat - it's brimming with atheist, stoner heathens so the Green surge is reasonable. Emily Thornberry doesn't deserve to wield serious political power because of her 'meanwhile in Rochester' comments, IMHO. She's awful. Lickspittle London luvvie, and it's more egregious because she putatively has a normal background (grammar school isn't a normal background FWIW, it's just posh people who game the system to a attend such schools). The cherry on top was Emily's failure to endorse Jeremy Corbyn after she'd been reselected as the Labour candidate. Corbyn pulled a shift to help Emily get elected in Islington South & Finsbury in 2005, an election she really ought to have lost, but didn't. I remember drinking to Emily's loss in the 2020 Labour leadership race. It was hilarious that she, despite being an MP for 15 years at that point, failed to get enough nominations to get anywhere, despite Rebecca Long-Bailey and Starmer being much more recent MPs. Emily Thornberry just reminds me of Nigella Lawson, but without all of Nigella's endearing qualities and endowments. I hope Emily retires in 2029. Maybe the failed Labour candidate in Islington North can get the nod for Islington South & Finsbury (where he is a Councillor, IIRC) for his sins and for losing to Corbyn.

Chairing a major committee would no doubt mollify her, and also be a good use of her undoubted talents.

She doesn't look 64. Some MPs, like Heidi Alexander, have never looked young.

In my head, all Heidis are aged 40-50. There surely aren't many baby Heidis or old Heidis in the UK.
