The Finchley part of the constituency is private-renter heavy, so Labour could be in trouble if the housing crisis gets worse. That is correct. Identity politics may have helped the Labourite around Golders Green (eating into Tory leads there and in Garden Suburb) but East Finchley is quite vulnerable to the Greens I think (as we've seen in neighbouring Highgate in Haringey the Green got 23% in the 2022 locals. Labour could easily lose votes in East Finchley which is the crappiest part of the seat and could be anywhere. It's really a come down from Muswell Hill, Highgate and Garden Suburb. Sorry, not sorry. East Finchley is a lot nice than many perenially safe Labour seats. It does clearly have one or two quite nasty estates, but a lot of it is very similat to Muswell HIll and Fortis Green, but like them its muesli belt so votes left. I think North Finchley is a bit more grotty in many ways but the crappiest ward in the seat is undoubtedly Cricklewood

When waiting to move into our Highgate flat, we stayed in North Finchley. The Tube links are shit, with a main road keeping you up.

I would have it down as a Liberal Democrat area, though it did originally elect Liberal councillors back in the 1960s.

The grottiest area of Barnet is probably IMO Burnt Oak but Cricklewood definitely up there.
East Finchley is actually pretty desirable aside from the estates (and even those, compared to say, Edmonton, are not that bad). The "County Roads" are particularly nice. I would say some of the best pubs in Barnet LB are in that area (not a high bar to be fair). It also has much better transport links than Muswell Hill of course. I would happily live there.
It does perhaps live in the shadow of very opulent areas nearby (Hampstead Garden Suburb, Highgate) and it is not as wealthy as those areas.
It is not as Jewish as most of Finchley/HGS or indeed Highgate, though the Jewish community in East Finchley is still not negligible (it is not as much of a jump as, say, Burnt Oak to Edgware). There is a small Irish influence and two longstanding Irish pubs.
A lot of the Labour vote in East Finchley these days is a trendy-left sort of vote.
