The Conservative candidate is Julie Redmond. The Labour candidate is no longer Darren Rodwell. I suppose Jon Cruddas got the champagne out, considering how much he fought against his selection.

If somebody fabricated an incident to get rid of Lloyd Russell-Moyle, seen as a left-winger, for purely factional reasons, which I cannot entirely rule out at this stage, I deplore it in the strongest terms.

However, investigations are needed. I hope they're both in a position to be exonerated and that at some point they will be able respectively to resume and to start a parliamentary career.

Could be incidental, but I find the timing suspicious.

Slightly suspiciously quickly, the allegations against Darren Rodwell get dismissed.

It's extremely similar to what happened to Jas Athwal in neighbouring Ilford S, though the allegations (even though they appear to have been entirely vexatious & spurious) weren't dismissed as quickly as those against Rodwell. Whether Darren Rodwell will get another chance as soon is rather doubtful.

Is there not a good chance of him putting in a successful challenge for the candidacy next time round like Athwal managed against Tarry?

Whether Darren Rodwell will get another chance as soon is rather doubtful. And potentially the same thing has happened to Lloyd Russell-Moyle who was also prevented from standing. Labour should probably change how these complaints are handled to avoid accusations like these being weaponised

Fair to say that Rodwell has other "baggage" though (not sure if that was ever true of Athwal) so we shall see if he also gets rehabilitated or not.

In most places (other than some obvious ones like Rochester and Strood/notionals from Thanet East) Reform’s vote was either up on what UKIP achieved in 2015 or the decline was very marginal and can be explained by new Tory incumbents (eg Mansfield).
Here the decline was 8% from 22.2 for UKIP in 2015 to 14.2 for Reform in 2024. It makes sense as I think the demographic changes here were greater than almost anywhere else in the 2021 census with even more change since then.

I don’t agree with this as such but whenever we talk about Barking, I’m reminded of this, with all the febrile, feverish pre-referendum context to this show.
