The Tory candidate is Ben Obese-Jecty, who was Diane Abbott's opponent in Hackney N & Stoke Newington in 2019.

presumably pronounced something like O'bay-say. I think so. He's regarded by Tories I know as being one of the most promising of the new intake, if he makes it. Army background.

Visited Huntingdon today (to watch a decent amateur production of "Hamlet" at the George Hotel). At around 10.30 on the High Street near the market there were about 10 Labour activists giving out leaflets and stickers (and generally getting in the way of shoppers). Half an hour later they had all gone. Around 12.30 there were a large number of people supporting Chan Abraham, the Independent candidate leafletting. Several were walking around with sandwich boards over their shoulders- I haven't seen anyone doing that for years.

I've just watched his maiden speech, which was yesterday. The Deputy Speaker called him by pronouncing his name with stress on the first syllable, and a short vowel, like "Obissy" as in "Policy".
